I've been doing the WinApps CD for several years primarily for two other PC Clubs, but would like to make it available within the Sun City Computer Club too. Sometimes it's updated more than once a week depending the importance of a program's update.

Here is info pertaining to the maintenance and availability of the WinApps CD. I feel that it would be a valuable tool for the Mentors and other club power users.

WinApps CDs contain a huge library of useful PC files. It is constantly kept up-to-date. Each version is named WinAppsyddd where y is the last digit of the year (currently = 9) and ddd is the julian date (000 thru 366). The current version is WinApps9269.

Bootable: The WinApps CD is bootable to a DOS prompt independent of the hard drive. The optical drives are supported in this DOS boot.

Here are the links related to WinApps CDs:

Current Winapps ISO File:
<http://winapps.kca-tx.org/>

The ISO file is an image of a WinApps CD. Download the WinAppsyddd.ISO and double-click on it. Popular CD burning programs (Roxio and Nero) will want to go directly to the CD burning mode. A free CD/DVD burning program that does ISO files is CDBurnerXP for Win 2000/03/08/XP/Vista/7 <http://majorgeeks.com/CDBurnerXP_d4242.html>.

Saving on Flash Drive vs Burning CD:
Many users don't want to burn the ISO file to a CD. Instead, they drag-n-drop the downloaded ISO file onto 7Zip <http://www.7-zip.org/download.html>. Once unZIPped in 7Zip, they use 7Zip's Copy command to copy the individual files and folders directly to a USB Flash Drive. [Note that the Flash Drive is not bootable as is the burned CD.]
