While in the compose mode, when I click Tools, the first menu item is Spelling (F7). I tried it with intentional errors in the text and it caught them all. Typically, Microsoft e-mail programs only have a functional spell checker if Office is also installed. Early on I didn't have Office installed. I did the same check in Windows Live Mail with the same results. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. But if you go to TOOLS on the main Windows Mail window, where you compose a new email, then click on OPTIONS, there is a tab for Spell Check. Joanie Dennen
